M.Ac.O.M. The Admissions Process

2012 Early M.Ac.O.M. Admissions Application Deadline: February 1, 2012

SIOM accepts applications for early admission beginning in December for entry into the school the following September.  Applicants with plans to complete some prerequisites prior to fall entry may be considered on a contingency basis.  Selected applicants will be invited to attend interviews to be scheduled in February and March.  In-person interviews are required. Decision letters will be sent out by March 15th.  Accepted applicants will have until April 1st to make a decision and send in their enrollment agreement and a nonrefundable $500 deposit to reserve a their place in the entering class.  This deposit will be applied to the first trimester's tuition.

Out-of-State Applicants: We recommend that applicants who may need additional time to make travel arrangements apply prior to the application deadline.  It takes approximately two weeks for applications to be processed.


M.Ac.O.M. Rolling Admissions

If any spots remain for the next entering class after the early admissions process is completed, SIOM will continue to accept applications and hold admissions interviews until the remaining spots for the new entering class are filled.  Applicants with plans to complete some prerequisites prior to fall entry may be considered on a contingency basis.  Please check the website after April 1st for updates on rolling admission opportunities and upcoming interview dates.  Applicants will be notified of their admissions status within two weeks after their interview. Applicants who are accepted will have two weeks to make a decision and send in their enrollment agreement and a nonrefundable $500 deposit to reserve a their place in the entering class.  This deposit will be applied to the first trimester's tuition.

M.Ac. Program Rolling Admissions

SIOM is presently accepting applications for admission into the M.Ac. program for the Spring 2012 trimester. Applicants with plans to complete some prerequisites prior to the end of the first trimester in school may be accepted on a contingency basis.

Interview spots are on a space available basis.  To be considered for a particular date you must have a complete application turned in at least two weeks before the interview date.  Early application is recommended.  Please check our website for upcoming interview dates at: http://www.siom.edu/how-to-apply.

Decisions regarding acceptance are made within two weeks after the interview. Applicants are accepted until the class is full.  Some applicants may be placed on a wait-list basis. Candidates for admission must demonstrate maturity, academic ability and sincerity to enter the field of Oriental medicine.

Materials required for application:

  • Completed SIOM application
  • A recent passport-sized photograph
  • Official transcripts of prior education sent directly to SIOM from the originating institution. Transcripts from other countries must be translated into English and evaluated by a credential-evaluation service. We suggest World Education Service (www.wes.org).
  • Essay describing reasons for choosing this field and the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine
  • A brief explanation of how you plan to finance your education and living expenses
  • $50 application fee (non-refundable).
  • Prospective Student Release of Information Form

ADMISSION POLICIES

English Language Requirement: All classes are taught in English. If the admissions committee has any concerns regarding the applicant's written and/or verbal fluency, the applicant will be required to score at least 500 on the PBT or 173 on the CPT of the TOEFL exam. The applicant may also be asked to take the Test for Spoken English (TSE).

Transfer Policy: All applicants to the SIOM program are expected to enter at the beginning of the program. There are provisions for students to apply for credit for some biomedical science and Chinese language courses. Assessment of transfer credit is done on a case-by-case basis.  Students must submit a Transfer Credit Request Form (available through the Academic Coordinator) and provide records of previous college credit.  It may also be necessary to submit additional documentation and/or take a competency exam in the material.   Acceptance of transfer credit does not affect the overall cost of the program or the length of time to complete the program.  Please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
